So one of our local universities here in Fiji started a certificate program in TV and Film production. Since my free lance gig has been a bit slow so far this year, I decided to enrol for the course because it beats stating home all day mucking around.
I was trying to plan little projects for my self in between jobs, but most of the time I would end up playing video games till the late afternoon, before shooting off to grab a beer with my friends. If I had a little bit more self control I might have made something of the spare time... but I didn't see that happening any time soon.
I kinda did want to go back to school and was thinking about it for a while now. I've been working forever as a sound editor and learnt video editing and scripting, but I've never had any formal training in it.
The course has been pretty good so far. Though very little of it is new to me, it has been interesting to go over the finer details of video production, particularly some of the theory stuff.
So I'm learning how to fine tune scripts and better storyboard and break down scenes. We also shoot a project every week and then use that as our study subject for the week for practical things like editing and camera work. The whole thine is very cool because it doesn't feel like I'm sitting in a class; things like this is shit I love doing ...
Plus during lectures is when I do some of my best doodling.
