Dante 01

So I'm gonna get my self a copy of this movie:

I saw a trailer for this film on line the other, as I was on my search for more sci-fi/ horror shizz, and it looked like something that I really REALLY want to watch.

Thing is though... most every damn review I've read of this says it's a shit movie.

But I don't care... I want to see this thing for me self. I know a lot of critics hated Event Horizon when it came out... but I love it to little chopped up bits. I did find a decent review that found something to like about Dante 01... you can read it here.

If you want to check out a trailer... Just Google it.

Don't be lazy.

EDIT 3/05/09

They were right... this movie sucks.

Still loving Dead Space

So I just finished all the 360 achievements for Dead Space.

I have had this game since like, three days after it came out, and I can never get enough of it. I can only hope the EA can provide us with a sequel that builds on what is already one of the coolest, most entertaining games I have ever played. Second would have to be Doom3.

Everything from the story, to the premise and especially the look of it... makes me want more Dead Space.

I need to get my self more games like this.

Sci- Fi/ Horror is a genre that I am starved for right now. It is certainly a genre we need to expand. There were a lot of mad movies back in the 60s and 70s that explored all kinds of extraterrestrial and technologically advanced horror elements. These days I think it's so scarce...

At least I haven't come across too many... need to get me some.

Here... read why Dead Space rocks.

It just wants to play...

I think the Aliens look more threatening with their mouths open. Mental note for next time...

Slow afternoon at Mc Donalds

Click for better view

This came to me while walking to Mc Donalds from my office to meet my buddies.

FYI: Caita = WTF in Fijian.

Man I had a weird dream

Sometimes I do stuff so much that I start seeing things relating to it in my dreams. Like when I first got 'Silent Hill' one on my PS and played it so much that I started seeing creepy hospitals and dead nurses. Or when I was PVPing World of Warcraft so much that I started having WSG matches in my sleep, where I could see player names and shit.

Well I spent the last weekend watching a shit load of Alien movies... But surprisingly I had this weird , but very cool dream about 'Supernatural'.

Yeah...

I dreamt that I actually watched an entire episode of 'Supernatural in my sleep, and I actually woke remembering so much detail.

Which is weird cause my supernatural bing was a couple weeks back, when I watched like the whole of season 1 to the end of 3 in like two weeks. Now days I'm down to open episode per week.

But any how, I had this dream....and here it is:

I dreamnt that I was in this house, it was like a huge colonial time house. It looked like an old mansion, and it had all these paintings and war memorial stuff all over. But like, British war time things. I was standing in some sort of lobby and there seemed to be a party happening around me. But no one could see, and in my dream some how I came to the conclusion, that I was watching TV. Even though I was standing right there in the middle of it.

Then I saw these two girls wonder away from the crowd, they were walking up these stairs that had red carpeting all over em. These stairs led to a long hall way that had the red carpet running all the way along it till the other end. Along the sides the hall way had old paintings and more war time things like guns and old swords on the walls.

Soon the girls came to the end of the hallway to these huge French doors, and I could hear crying on the other side. I saw that the girls heard it too. So the decided to open the door.

When they opened the door I could see this white figure move to the right, out of view. One of the girls dropped something and ran away. But the other went inside to have a look. At first we saw nothing... for some reason I was kinda freaked and I wanted to leave. So I turned towards the door and ran right into this little boy.

I could see he was a little Hindustani kid, but he was covered in some kind of black oil that dripped off him in a weird way. His eyes white dead white and when he looked at me he screamed, and shit in the room started flying at me and the girl. By now she was screaming to.

Cut to supernatural title. Like fucken serious... my dream cut to a fucken title.

The next day Sam and Dean where in the house looking around. And I was standing around watching the whole thing.

They were talking to some blond lady who was holding the little girl who saw the boy. They were sitting on a couch and the girl was still shaken up. I heard the woman explain how the house use to belong to some British colonel who had like these Hindustani maids and butlers that lived with him. When the colonel died, because he had no kids or family, he left the place with the Hindustani family that served him, and they in turn lived there for a few generations.

Then Sam and Dean asked if there had been any deaths in the house or around it. The woman told him that a lot of people have died both in the house and around it. The blond woman and her family had recently bought the house from the previous family and decided to turn it into a war museum because of all the things in it.

'Where is the previous family now?' Sam asked...

Seriously....

Then I followed Sam and Dean to some house, they knocked on the door and this old Hindustani woman came out. Sam and Dean started asking her all kinds of questions about the house and finally they asked if any one had died in the house while they stayed there.

The woman looked a bit sad and finally told them that her little boy had gone missing there many years ago.

Back at the house the new owner and her daughter were still scared of shit, when we should up Sam and Dean asked if they could look around. Eventually after looking all over they decided to check out the basement. There they found all these drums.

They were huge drums of oil. Sam and Dean looked all over and then I kind of remembered that the kid was covered in oil. Just then Sam decided to look inside on of the barrels. And then another and another before finding one right towards the end of the basement. They pried it open and inside they found the little boy, deep in the oil.

So they got the boys old mother to come over and she met with the blond lady and she assured her that when the Hindustani lady and her family were here, there were no spooky happenings. That's when Sam suggested that maybe the little boy is just scared.

So they all went up to that same room at the end of the red hallway from the beginning to what now seemed like an attic. There the old Hindustani lady called for her little boy and sure enough he showed up. At first everyone was kind of tense. but then the little boy started crying.

"Mamu... why did you leave me Mamu?" he asked the old lady.

And she told him that she didn't 'leave' him but simply moved out not knowing that he was even there. Sam and Dean conclude that the ghost of the boy was always there and when the old lady and her family left, he got scared and started showing him self. Screaming and throwing things at the 'strangers' in his house.

At this point the old lady starts crying and so does the blond chick who bought the house. The little boy's mum asks if there is some way to clean the boy up and maybe send him off to where he should be.

Sam and Dean tell her its a long shot but there they have an idea that might work. Then I saw them salt and wash the little boys remains. Next thing we see is that the boy is nice and clean, no longer covered in the black oil. He is all smiley and shizz and his mother is happy. They walk off to the attic and let Sam and Dean burn the boys remains outside, Hindustani cremation style.

Then the boy smiles and says bye to his mum and disappears.

And that was when I woke up...

I know this might sound like bullshit... but I actually saw this whole fucken thing happen in my self. With all this detail. I even woke up and told my GF the whole story and she said that it sounded awesome.

I'm so gonna write this out as a proper story, but I thought I should write down what I saw in case I forgot it. And what better place to write it down than here on me blog. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

:D

At home...no one heard me scream.

So I went to down my local DVD store to pick up my Alien Quadrilogy box set yesterday. When I finally arrived and had the money in hand to give to the chick behind the counter, I became a little hesitant… cause it kinda did cost a lot.

I was thinking… “Man… I really ought to start saving for Batman: Arkhum Asylum” or even just saving in general cause I’m always blowing my money on all kinds of crap. Maybe I don’t really need this box set.

But then she brought that alien baby out and let me open it up.

And I was like:

“here’s my hard earned clams… see yaz”

This thing looked like a fucken alien when it was spread open. The 9 disc case unfolded acrross the counter and I saw the discs all green and shinny staring at me.

I had to have it.

So I paid up and ran out of the store like a little girl all excited. Sadly I couldn’t watch it right away because I was going out to dinner with my girl friendand her family for her mums birthday dinner.

That was a very nice too…

Afterwards I drove home like Racer X and spread that box set across my bed… grabbed the first disc (Alien) and fired up the DVD player.

And I was pleased.

We’ve all seen Alien and know how good it is… but this was the first time for me to see it remastered. Based on the quality it would be easy to convince someone who hasn’t seen the movie that it was made like 5 years ago instead of back in 1979. The set pieces and style almost make the movie timeless. And save for a few croma key issues here and there… the movie is visually amazing.

The scene with the little Alien ‘baby’ running across the mess hall table was not ac convincing as it might have been when the movie was first released… but the rest of it is every bit as nerve wrecking. I actually found my self tense and excited as I watched it.

The bit in the end threw me back to the first time I had seen it and was still a chiller. This is the bit when Ripley finds the Alien in the wall of her escape ship… camouflaged and blended in with the pipes and machinery.

After the movie I didn’t even know where to begin with the special features disc for it. Each Film has an accompanying disc that holds a treasure chest of featurettes and extras, that are broken into various categories such as ‘Pre-Production’, ‘Post- Production’ and so on. The sheer amount of Alien related videos and docos that are included are just mind fucking.

I’ve only just started watching the ‘special features’ disc for the first movie and already my mind has been pumped full of so much Alien details and tid bits, and I’ve only watched the ‘pre-production’ stuff.

One thing I found very interesting was how Ridley Scott had two different concept artists working seperatly from each other on the various aspects of the movie. One did the human aspect and the other the Alien. So when the two 'worlds' meet... you have something truly alien to each other.

All in all this is a nice something for not only fans of the Alien series, but sci-fi and more importantly sci-fi horror as a whole. The sci-fi horror genre is starved for good movies these days… but I’m glad I can go back to this baby when I need my fix.

I’m sure my GF will appreciate me giving my 28Days/Weeks later and Terminator DVDs a rest.

My next buy has to be Event Horizon… collectors :D

Great Supernatural Episode

I just got done watching what might be one of my favorite Supernatural Episodes yet. The 18th episode of Season four called "The monster at the end of this book" started of as something that gave me a bit of a laugh and ended with a big "fucken sweet!"

The basic plot of the episode is that Sam and Dean discover that all their adventures have some how turned into a series of cheap horror novels, with the writer of these novels having some sort of psychic insight into their lives.

I'm not going to get too much into it because I don't want to mess it up for anyone who might not have seenit. But I will say that the episode pays off most if you've been an avid fan from the start... as it pulls a lot from fandom.

You can read the reviews and plot details here.

Coincidently the show happens to be named after one of my favorite children's book that I absolutely loved as a kid. I was just at a BBQ over the weekend with my girl friends family... and I was just telling them how much I loved the book when I was like 6 or something.

Don't ask how I worked that into the conversation.

There are no Zombies on Nukulau Island

My friends and I checked.

We are currently in the middle of a four day Easter Weekend, so to start of the festivities, my friends and I decided to take a boat trip to the Island of Nukulau. Here's a map.

It was good fun.

Roy (back turned), Me and Wilson with his daughter.

We swam all afternoon and then we went for a walk around the island. Sadly I had forgotten to take my baseball bat, but it was alright... we didn't run into any zombies.

After the walk we all sat down and had a nice dinner, before spending an hour or so trying to light a fire. Eventually we got it going. Then we sat around and shared a bit of Kava culture. Which involves sitting around a basin of mixed Kava, and talking, laughing and just enjoying each others company.

Our Hut... we found an old Bure and patched it :P

At around 11pm or so, the real fun started :D

Because that's about the time we started dishing out the ghost stories, while sitting by the beach near our little hut... with only the light from the fire and the full moon. Some how we had neglected to take candles or lanterns, and we only had one torch.

It was a lot fun, thankfully we had a full moon on the night.

A little after midnight we decided to go exploring.

It was actually pretty funny cause by now we were sort of drugged up on Kava and spooked from the ghost stories. My buddy Albie had fallen asleep and so had the girls, which meant my friends MJ, Wilson, Roy and I were the only ones going for the adventure. The funniest part was us walking through the jungle at midnight and me asking MJ:

"How come you're creeped out? I thought you said you didn't believe in ghosts..."

And MJ goes: "I said I didn't believe in them, that doesn't mean I'm not scared of them"

So we followed some spooky path through the jungle, stopping at creepy trees and shizz here and there, just to scare our selves even more. I had to keep telling everyone not to point at the trees or go under them, because there is a Fijian myth about how ghosts hang out in trees at night. Something about how because the trees are grounded, the spirits that don't want to leave, latch on to them so they can be grounded too. Yes, lots of creepy shizz like that.

We did all this without a torch because of MJ's infinite wisdom

MJ: "By now our eyes have adjusted to the dark, and besides we only have one torch, and that only makes a cone of light. And it's just one cone of light. If something runs by it and we're all like 'WTF was that' we'll panic cause our eyes will be trying to adjust between the cone and the darkness, and that'll make things even scarier"

Meh...

So after making our way from one end of the island, through the jungle to the other in the dead of night with just the moon light, we had to walk all the way back again. There was suppose to be some old grave site on the island some where, but we never got around to looking for it.

View from the hut when tide came in

Sleeping on the ground was alright... though I think I could wait a long time before having to do it again. Plus taking a piss in the middle of the night was a little creepy.

But the Island it self was very nice... full of history, and it was just nice to get away with the fellas and me gurl.

Next weekend I'm trying to convince the guys to have Alien Marathon, cause that's when I pick up my Alien Quadrilogy Box set :D

Watched Monsters Vs Aliens Yesterday

And it was pretty sweet.

You could tell that the makers of the movie loved the sci-fi stuff when they were growing up, cause they re-created it with such style. Plus the humor is very funny.

I particularly loved the main baddie and his arsenal of deadly robots. He had a very old-school sci-fi feel to him.

Thing that I walked away with from the movie was, in the 2 scenes where the main chick gets knocked out, and then when she wakes up her clothes have changed. Does that mean the some one got to see giant lady bum?

I wonder...

Bollywood Horror

Growing up I was subjected to a lot of Hindi movies. I say 'subjected' because in away for me, even as a kid growing up... I found Hindi movies to be terrible.

I did how ever enjoy a number of Amitabh Bachchan movies… but lets not get into that.

I also have a memory of being really scared of some movie called Punari Mundir (Hindi Old Temple) which was about this crazy monster/ werewolf thing that lived under this temple that in my memory looks like an old crypt.

I was like 5 or 6 back then so… yeah.

But today I was talking to this guy at work and he was telling me that he read up on the Dead Snow post I did before this. He was telling me how he wished that India, or Bollywood, dished out more horror movies.

Or should I say… put out better horror movies. With so many great horror movies out of Spain and Norway out last year… and movies like Ringu becoming almost a pop culture phenomenon, it would be nice if India joined the fun.

After all they have such a diverse culture that they can pull from. I’m sure some where in all their historical texts we would find a shizz load of creepy stories to rip.

I even have one about a myth from Fiji. Ask me some time and I’ll tell you about the script I wrote :P

So as this guy and I talked some more… he remembered this one movie that he saw some time back that was kinda creepy. It was called Yavarum Nalam, which translates to “Everyone is fine”. This movie was later released as 13B.

I looked it up online and man it sounds pretty interesting.

It’s about this guy that buys a television set that seems to be broadcasting a mirror image of his and his family’s life. It’s all fun and games until people in the show…start dying.

Dun Dun DUUUUUUUUUUN!

I’m not gona say more about it, cept that Ima try and get my hands on it. I like the posters for the movie… looks kind of old school horror.

Just watched Dead Snow

And man it was awesome :D

When I first heard about the Norwegian zombie movie Dead Snow (Norwegian Død snø), I was a bit worried that all the hype and shizz about it was gonna make the movie fall short. Cause I kind of had developed some high expectations for it.

I keep telling my self I shouldn't have high expectations, but I'd be expecting too much of my self to change.

But this movie deserves all the hype it gets.

I must admit that it started off a bit 'iffy', but only because the beginning seemed a little too cheesy. But once the shizz hits the fan, it all comes together very nicely. Story wise Dead Snow is very simple. Some kids head up to the mountain for a little bit of skiing and a bit of the ol' sex and candy. But unwittingly run into a horde of flesh starved zombie Nazi's.

What follows is a few laughs... coupled with a little blood and gore.

Did I say little? Sorry... I meant lots of blood and gore. The best part of Dead Snow is the snow. Cause blood looks so good when it's smeared across white :D

And there is lots of blood... and guts. Things get chopped off and sown back on. I don't want to spoil anything for any one but it is my blog and I want to talk about some of my best bits.

The simplest one is this one bit where this guy is stitching is own neck after it gets chewed open. I watched that part with a bit of a chuckle and some 'O shit son!'

Then theres the bit where this chick is being eaten up by Zombie Nazi's and we get see some of it through her point of view.

Then there's the infected hand + chainsaw scene which was a little nod to another one of my favorite classics Evil Dead 2.

I think that's what I love about this movie. It just reminded me of so many of my favorite horror movies. The whole movie doesn't try to be anything more than it wants to be, and that's a mixture of all the gory bits the film makers stored away in their sick little heads after hours and hours of watching zombie/horror movies.

With a bit of chracter development thrown in for good measure.

The Zombies tore this guy a new everything.

This movie isn't going to be making me re-think my top 5s list when it comes to zombie movies. But it certainly will be a classic in it's own way. If you love Evil Dead 2 or Dog Soldiers and the like... then Dead Snow will make your night, and it's a no brainier for zombie fans... See what I did there :D

Watch it with a friend for the best results.

O and it is sub-titled, cause it is after all a Norwegian film. If you can't deal with that, then just wait awhile and I'm sure the good people in Hollywood will remake it.
