Christopher Nolan: Please stop ruining my favourite characters

Yes I am a massive comic book fan and more so a huge Superman and Batman fan. I have read every one of their comics from Issue one till the issues this month.

And I hate Christopher Nolan's take on my favourite heroes.

Nolan's Batman: I don't kill people.

And yet he blows up anything in his way when his driving from point A to point B.

When he was asked to kill that one guy at the League of shadows place, he says no - then blows up the whole damn place killing everyone in it including the fake Ra's al Ghul... Then he kills Dent in the 2nd film.

Plus I hate how Nolan wants to make everything "Grounded" ... it's a Superhero movie. It's meant to have an element of the extraordinary. You can't look to explain everything and make it plausible. 


Not only did Nolan strip Batman of any of the things that make him a fan favourite; always one step a head, world greatest detective, less brawler more tactician, master of the shadows...

Nolan actually took the idea of a man wearing a bat suit and made it mundane. He sucked the joy out of it and made this "matter of fact" thing, but for all the "realism" he tries to force into his movies he still expects us to suspend our disbelief for bull shit things like Batman escaping that bomb or "Robin" knowing Bruce is Batman because of a stupid look on his face? and what about that broken back that heals in 3 months or how he even got back to Gotham from that damn prison in the ground? ...in time to paint a giant bat symbol that will light up with flames on that bridge.

As for that damn voice; just the fact that Nolan heard Bale do that ridiculous voice and didn't try to change it - is fail.

Most people don't even like the Nolan Batman films for Batman. They like them because of the villains. With Joker being the most loved.

You wanna know why the Joker was so awesome? (Aside from Ledger's phenomenal performance) ... because we don't know anything about him. The mystery to his chaos was the major draw - he was like a force of nature. In comparison to Nolan's neatly laid out Batman he was a breath of fresh air.

Plus the villains are the only ones who actually get any character development in Nolan's films, look at Dent or Ras. At the end of the 3rd film Batman isn't any better at being Batman. In fact in Rises his a freaking joke - especially when he goes up against Bane.

And as for Man of Steel. Nolan completely lost the plot with that one. We know his looked at Superman comics... but has he actually sat down to read one? For all the reason Man of Steel fails as a Superman movie there's one that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Superman doesn't kill people - no matter what the reason.

For everything that has a capacity to do good, it has an equal capacity to do evil.

Superman, through his strengths and attributes has a great capacity for for good... what keeps him from going evil? His morals. We can't just have him killing people, no matter how it's justified. You and I can't kill people, because no matter the reason it's still wrong and we have to answer to it.

Who does Superman answer to if he kills someone? To have him carry out an act like that totally destroys the foundations of his character, because it's a total abuse of his power. And that alone is proof that Nolan and the Man of Steel crew understand nothing about Superman.

And did he have to kill Zod? It's not like Nolan's Superman did anything to show that he cared about the people around him. He trashed half the city and never took the fight anywhere else... like he would have done in the comics.

Why couldn't he just grab Zod and fly away? Why couldn't he just stand in front of the heat rays? Why couldn't he just cover Zods eyes with his hands? Yes he would have gotten hurt - but if he cared so much wouldn't it have been worth the pain? With all his powers and all his "love for humanity" the first thing that came to mind was to snap a living things neck?

Bull shit... complete and utter bull shit.

Yet people eat Nolan's crap up.

And Superman doesn't have to be a "bad ass" - his not edgy or hardcore. There are hundreds of inter-changeable comic characters to fill that niche. Superman IS the boy scout, he IS the naive farm boy with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

And his not just an alien from another planet. He was born and raised an earth kid, a simple farm boy.

The Batman persona is the real Bruce Wayne and the playboy billionaire is the façade. But for Superman - it's the other way around. The godly spaceman is the outer shell, inside Clark Kent - born and raised - is the real person.

This was totally lost with the dull, emo portrayal of Superman in Man of Steel.

Up yours Christopher Nolan - if you don't like making Superhero movies, then stop getting involved with them.

And yes my hate is directed to Nolan because he and David Goyer wrote the script. Zack Snyder should go back to directing music videos. His ruined Watchman - the only comic book to receive a Hugo award and now he helped ruin Superman.

Aquaman behind you!

Drew this after I read a very cool issue of the DC monthly Brave and the Bold today, which had Aquaman and The Demon taking on a Cthulhu inspired sea monster and it's underwater fiends.

The art was fantastic and the story was slightly creepy, and it also showed Aquaman to be a really cool hero. It actually made me want to look up some more Aquaman reads.

Zombie, Grundy and Dark

So as the month comes to an end, and since I've already been through my normal monthly comic reads... I found my self creeping out to grab other titles that captured my attention.

And this month I really got into some serious "chain reaction" shizz, because one new title lead to another and now I have three new comics that I'm freaking crazy about.

At the beginning of the month I had started reading some very cool comics based on and inspired by the writings of Lovecraft. I started out with an ongoing series called Cthulhu Tales, after which I grabbed my self a whole collection of Lovecraft comics dating back to the 70s. As I was searching through various sites with reviews and shizz about these comics, I came across a little series called Zombie.

Aside from the obvious allure to the title, I was enticed by the fact that the series lead was sort of a zombie hero. And not any of these Marvel zombies bullshit, I mean he is a zombie that saves people by eating baddies and such. It may sound kind of corny, but once you get over it... the comic makes for a very cool read. Throw in some cannibal hillbillies and you've got your self my new monthly comic.

So after I got my hands on all the issues for the Zombie that I could find, I started looking around for some other titles that had interesting spins on their undead leads. It's then I came across the new Solomon Grundy title that DC started up last year.

As a villain Grundy has always been one of my favorites. The whole reanimated corpse with Voodoo ties makes for some interesting story telling. The series works as somewhat of a prequel DC's Blackest Night series of comics that wrapped this month. The art for the pilot issue was awesome, but the ongoing series art is a little under-pare compared to some of the bigger titles that are out there, but the story reads pretty good.

The series follows Grundy as he sets out to find out the truth about his death and his killer. His granted a chance at gain absolution and peace under the guide of the Phantom Stranger and the magical Green Lantern Allan Scott. I thought it was a nice way of adding a bit of humanity to Grundy, making him more in the likes of maybe Swamp Thing, as a sort of unwilling, brooding anti-hero.

While fishing around the DC site I came across another title that I'd actually seen a few months back, but never got around to picking up.

Simon Dark is a fairly new DC hero who is a stitched up dead guy brought back to life. He haunts a lonely area of Gotham city called The Village, and though he shares the city with other heroes, namely Batman, there isn't much in terms of referencing or crossing over with these heroes.

The whole show belongs to Dark as he begins to discover the truth about why he was brought back to life, as well as the true extent of his powers. Like the 20 souls that make up Simon Dark, and how he can use them to re-animate the dead... fancy.

One major allure I have towards the chracter is that he reads a little like the Crow, he also shares his overall look a bit too. Written by Steve Niles, there's a certain melancholy through out the narration and flow of the series, which is a nice change of pace from your typical super-hero comic.

Best bit is that all this comes together beautifully in the form of awesome art work by Scott Hampton, whose style really gives the books it's own kind of life.

Some great finds this month, now I'm really looking forward to next months issues.

Superman Vs Zombies

Like zombie movies, there are a tone of zombie comics that are pumped out every month. And there comics range from the purely awesome to the not so awesome.

I say "not so awesome" because I actually read everyone of them that I can, and I kinda like em all. But the big cheese of all these zombie comics would have to be The Walking Dead.


Dished out monthly by Image Comics, The Walking Dead is is amazing in terms of art and story. Being more than just a horror comic, the walking dead is more a tale of human drama, set against a zombie apocalypse. We follow our lead characters as they strive to survive not only against the undead, but also against the ass holes of humanity who try to rape, murder and generally be a pain in the ass for our heroes every step of the way.

The series has come a long way, and I've read every issue since the first. I must admit that what made the comic even sweeter in the beginning was the awesome art by Tony Moore, whose style of black and white I've been mad about since his Fear Agent series. But he left few issues into Walking Dead and was replaced by Charlie Adlard, who has a grittier style that adds to the comic in it's own cool way.

With a great story made up of strong drama and mad zombie action... I was very excited when I heard that the series was coming to the small screen as a live action TV show.

Rick Grimes... my hero

Well today I heard that Brandon Routh, the man who sissied up Superman, is joining the cast of Walking Dead's TV show, but as yet there's no news as to who he will be playing.

I really can't see him as any of the characters from the comic. With the bullshit way casting and such has been going these days in movies, I'm just glad they didn't make him Rick Grimes, that role has been handed to British Actor Andrew Lincoln.

Well lets see how this unfolds, who knows... maybe Routh will have a funny cameo role where he gets eaten by zombie Superman fans.

Watson what's that smell?

So as I was going through my monthly intake of comic book titles, I came across an interesting number by DC/Wildstorm.

As we all know the recent Sherlock Holmes film that's gracing our theaters at the moment will no doubt be stirring all kinds of Holmes related merchandise. I'm sure the popularity of the books will pick up too as new 'fans' try to get their hands on more Sherlock Holmes. Expecting Robert Downey Jr and getting Basil Rathbone instead.

Now over the years we've seen the world's second greatest detective go up against all kinds of things. Many writers have taken Holmes out of his 'element' and placed him in various stories that range from pure delight to down right WTF.

So it should have come as no surprise when I came across this:

When I was searching for pics to put up for the post, I mistakenly searched for Victorian DEAD instead of Victorian UNdead. The result of which was spooky shizz like this.

Deadpool Vs Zombies

I may not be a HUGE fan of Marvel... but even as a DC fan I know that Marvel has some cool characters. I love the Punisher, Daredevil... all the Spider Man villains (Except the Vulture ... I mean WTF?)

But one fella I really like from Marvel is Deadpool. He is so damn bad ass and hella funny. It's like forcing Spiderman and the Punisher to have hot web sex... and Deadpool would be their forbidden love fruit.

Yeah... I out did my self there.

So recently I got my self a couple of issues of Marvels latest Deadpool run. As I was reading through I was impressed with the crazy art and funny shizz here and there... but then I came across an issue that made me go "Well gosh darn it... these Marvel boys are alright"


Around issue 4 or 5, Deadpool is hired by this guy to track down and kill his wife... because she's become a zombie :D

What follows are some fun antics... mixed with blood, gore and big breasted zombie nurses.

Which makes for good reading.

I also need to get me self the latest chapter of Marvel Zombies, another title that I've very much enjoyed for obvious reasons. It seems in the latest tale of super heroes gone zombie... Deadpool's head has a lot to say.

Because... it's a zombie head.

A zombie head that has become so popular that it's even going to feature in the regular Deadpool monthly...

So we get to see Deadpool... teamed up with his zombie head.

Don't drop the soap

When Ben Templesmith draws a werewolf... he draws em like you've never seen.

Last night I treated my self to the first two issues of T-Smiths fairly new series 'Welcome to Hoxford' and man was it sweet.

Imagine a bunch of hardcore criminals... I'm talking psychopaths that range from serial rapists, murderers to necrophiliacs. All these guys are on death row in a huge prison... that is being run...

by...

Werewolves.

Yes... I smiled too.

From the first page till the end this baby looked sweet as. The whole look of the comic is very dark and brooding, which is classic Templesmith. As far as the story goes... the first issue does a cool job of setting things up, and the 2nd book gets underway to tearing shizz up.It reads close to 30 Days of Night, in the sense that it feels like a balls out horror movie. Basic on what needs to be basic... heavy on what we want from a horror story.

Which all was fine for me.

Plus it has werewolves man... I was kinda stirred back into werewolves a bit after watching Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. This baby was just what I needed. You don't get to see the beasties do much in the first two issues... but what little you do see gets you hungry for more.

Like I said earlier... When Ben Templesmith wants to draw werewolves... he really draws em mean :D

Creepy art....spooky atmosphere, and characters that are interesting enough to make you want to see em get mauled. Stop reading... go get it.

Yes I've been slack

I know I know... it's been awhile since I wrote something up here. I've just been caught up with so many things. Plus Street Fighter 4 makes my thumbs hurt :(

So what's new?

Well.. I finished Season 3 for Supernatural this afternoon. I know it aired a long time ago...but I live in Fiji, I'm lucky to have even heard of the damn thing. A friend of mine got his hands on season 1 through to 3... so I borrowed it off him and started watching it like last week.

Sam and Dean Winchester

Lets just say with about 22 episodes each in seasons 1 and 2...and 16 episodes in season 3... I've watched a lot of Supernatural these past few days.

For Valentines I took my GF to go see 'My Blood Valentine' in full glorious 3D!

I normally hate remakes... but this baby was pretty decent. Plus it had that guy who plays Dean in Supernatural, that rocked. It may not have been an amazing movie... but the 3D shizz and the cheap scares were enough to keep me entertained.

I also went to watch the Friday the 13th remake with my GF. Feb 13th was her birthday. Sadly I didn't find the F13 outing too worthwhile. Sure it was a brand new movie with my hero Jason slashing shizz up... but for some reason I felt as though the producers new mix of the Jason formula didn't go down well. At the end of the movie I found it a little lacking.

And I really liked Jason X... so for me to feel this way mad me sad. Cause I really was looking forward to the new one. In the end I felt the movie didn't do for the F13 franchise what Rob Zombie did for the Halloween franchise.

On the zombie front my viewing has been slightly limited. Like I said, I've been mucking around with Supernatural for the past few weeks. I did pick up a copy of Death-Dream aka Dead of Night. A movie about this guy who dies in NAM...but then...somehow...comes home. It was interesting... slow, but kinda creepy at times. Otherwise, I like my zombies more traditionally brain dead.

In this movie the zombie can drive.

O and I'm saving up to get my hands on Resident Evil 5. It's gonna cost me fucken 200 bucks to order the damn game into Fiji. I hope I can trust the reviews. But it is Resident Evil...and you pretty much can't go wrong with it. Unless you count Code Veronika and the horrible RE: Saviour series.

If anyone out there wants to buy me a copy of Resident Evil 5 (PAL) for me 350... I'll let you come over and play when the zombie holocaust breaks out.

Plus my mum cooks a mean curry... think about it.

As far as reading goes... I've been mucking around looking for any thing new on Batman's death. Walking Dead is still keeping me thrilled. Plus I've got a few 'new' Asimov's that I found at a local book sale.

But tonight I'm going to spend sometime going through the new one from my hero Ben Templesmith called Welcome to Hoxford. I love everything this artist has done... from his mad vampires in 30 days of night... to the latest Dead Space stuff he did for one of my fav 360 titles from EA.

I heard Hoxford is about werewolves running an asylum; sounds like a bloody good time to me.

Think ill also check on what's new with Wormwood.

Les Zombies!

Ah ze French.

I remember I used to love my French classes in high school...even though I never really got it. Id spend most of the time clowning around in the back with one of my buddies, which lead to hilarious out bursts from my French teacher Misour Michell.

But even though he yelled at us every now and then, most of the time he was a pretty cool guy. He also had him self an alright sense of humor.

Just the other year I got to work with some French artists for a comics expo that happened at our local library. My self along with my buddy Albie had our art work on display and we spent our nights drawing stuff for kids and some very cute girls.

On display at the French comic Expo. Mines the black and white stuff.

While we had the expo I also got to have a look at some of the comics that the French artists brought over with them, and some of them were pretty messed up. The French read some crazy shizz.

Which is good... because this appetite for the odd comic books has lead to something even more magical than a mermaid.

This month brings us the release of The Zombies that Ate the world! Written by Jerry Frissen and illustrated by one of my favorite artists Guy Davis... the genus that works on BPRD.


Though it's being brought to us by Devil's Due Publishing... the comic found it's initial fame over in France, which is why we had the elaborate back story concerning the French. The story is basically about this program that the US government comes up with in the year 2064, where they decide to integrate zombies back into society . Kinda like Fido... but without the collars. Needless to say things get 'les fucked up' and we end up with a lot of zombies that want a whole lot of brains.

I found a little Q&A with the writer and artist over at Humanoid Publishing, which made my grubby little hands itchy to get my self a copy. It also made my grubby eyes want to read it and my grubby mouth smile whilst I do.

While on the subject of the French and zombies... I still have to watch Paris by Night of the living Dead.

What is thr point of the ref?

As a kid I used to love wrestling.

Since we didn't have TV till I was like 7 or 8... I used to go down to the local video store and grab VHS tapes on Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior.

By the time I hit high school we had WCW on TV, and I can't remember the amount of dates I cut short so I could get home by 11pm on Saturdays to watch WCW Nitro! When we started getting more channels, WWF came to town, and I'm sorry...but it had the cooler wrestlers. But I'll never forget them Nitro Girls.

Now days it pains me to watch WWE. Seeing all these big shot wrestlers that were nothing but lackies before pisses me off. Nothing will ever be the same as the original Wolf Pack or DX.

O well...

I came across something today which kinda made me smile though... Do you ever feel that some times other people have a direct feed to the crap that's stirring in your brain?

Get this: A wrestler who dies and comes back as a zombie!

Dark Horse comics publishes a lot of my favorite shizz. From Hellboy to Conan...and now I'm going to get my grubby little hands on every single issue I can find of El Zombo Fantasma!

The basic story of it is a Wrestler that dies and makes a deal to come back...in exchange he has to watch over this chick who has more to her than meets the eye. (No shes not a Transformer)

And as if the news about the comic wasn't enough for me to come by... it seems there is gonna be a movie adaption too!

The story follows the mysterious murder of the world’s most notorious Mexican wrestler who bargains his way out of an eternity of fiery damnation by returning to Los Angeles to play guardian angel to a troublesome teen, Belisa Montoya. He soon discovers that the teen is not what she seems and that their fates have been intertwined for centuries.

Good stuff...

Off Topic

After the somewhat underwhelming Batman RIP and Batman Last Rights by Grant Morrison…Batman Meets his end at the hands of Darkside in Finale Crisis #6, also by Grant Morrison.

Batman RIP was a bit of a chore to read… it stirred up all kinds of shit from Thomas Wayne not being dead…to Alfred being Bruce’s father.

And now after all that….

Batman is Dead

…For now.

So begins the commotion over who will become the new Batman.

To put it lightly… I am a somewhat Avid Batman fan.

I love batman… in my home videos for my 1^st birthday my cake was a Batman Cake. Or a Bat-cake. He is hands down my favorite comic book character and favorite superhero. As far as I know I have every single one of his graphic novels… even the else world stuff and I have his comics up to date either in hard copy or CBR.

For Christmas I got a 10 inch Justice League unlimited Batman figure. I love him… I call him:

Batman.

On that note I don’t see how they can replace Batman with someone else who is not Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne is no just Batman’s alter ego. He IS The Batman. It is his own personal tragedy that created the Batman. Everything he put himself through to become the Batman is what makes the legend. It doesn’t matter if they get some other guy who has also lost someone to be the NEW Batman. It won’t be Batman.

Because Batman became so much more than just a cowl.

I’m pretty sure what might happen is that Batman will take a little break, wither it be his choice or not…

DC has ‘Killed’ other characters before. Even Superman was dead for a bit. And it was all over the news and papers. I remember it even reached our little island Fiji… about how the man of steel was no more.

Then they brought him back.

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) became Parallax and killed an entire city.

He came back.

What might happen is that there will be a bunch of guys running around making up for his absence. That’s what happened when Batman broke his back.

DC is always out to stir stuff that in turn makes for good reading. It has been a while since Batman got stirred. I doubt there’ll be much change to the formula… but it will be back a little sweeter I’m sure.

With the Detective Comics and Batman books going on hiatus… my monthly comic intake might get a bit lacking. But I’m sure DC will have some new fancy way of pulling me in.

I wonder who will be the filler while Batman is away. It would be cool to see Nightwing try his hand at being the Bat. But as past stories have shown…he is pretty adamant about being Nightwing. Batman's son Damian isn't ready for that kind of responsibility. The current Robin is a tad bit young…plus his got his own stuff going too. And Jason Todd is just crazy. I don’t know why they have Hush as a contender… and I also don’t know why there aren’t any signs of Jean Paul Valley. He did after all fill in for Batman while his back was out.

But then again…Valley went a little crazy too.

Stuff it.

Another thing I don’t really get is when exactly did Batman die?

For the past few months he has been fighting it out with the Black Glove in Batman RIP. At the end of which there was a massive explosion that didn’t see Batman come out alive.

But then during these same months Batman is off fighting it out in the Final Crisis story line…at the end of which he gets fried by Darksides Omega beams, but not before supposedly killing Darkside.

Well done Batman...get it?

I hope Neil Gaimen’s Whatever Happened to the caped crusader, which is due out next month, ties up some loose ends and maybe shines some light on what’s to come.

Aside from a ‘The End’ story for Batman, the book will also serve as a homage to Alan Moore’s ‘What ever happened to the man of tomorrow’, which marked the end of the Silver age Superman and ushered in the revamped version.

Batman deserves a break… he truly is one of the few people, be it fictional, that personifies the phrase “I’ll sleep when I’m dead’

Batman goes psycho in RIP

Whatever happens… it will be interesting till the good stuff begins. All this just means that I have an awesome ‘Return of the Batman’ comic to look forward to. Morrison himself had mentioned that when writing the books he had something:

"so much better than death. People have killed characters in the past but to me, that kind of ends the story! I like to keep the story twisting and turning. So what I am doing is a fate worse than death. Things that no one would expect to happen to these guys at all. This is the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman."

I'm looking forward to seeing what the future brings for my favorite hero... and I'm also looking froward to all the stuff in between.

He WILL come back….and his gonna kick everyones ass….

More Comics!

Just got done reading Jason Vs Leatherface.

And I must say...it wasn't what I expected. The story was nothing amazing...but it was interesting and kind of fun watching these two horror movie baddies interact. I've often wondered what would happen if the Hewitt family ever met up with someone that as terrifying as them.

Sadly the story explores this notion very loosely... and for some reason focuses more on giving Jason this weird, emo like personality.

Plus it makes Leatherface look really crap.

The basic story is that Jason runs into Leatherface in the woods and is invited back to his house after Jason cuts this guys head off and proves that he is not "Meat" but "one of them." We then watch Jason hanging out and at some levels makeing friends with Latherface. We are also treated to some of Jason's thoughts as he asks him self such questions as "I have killed everyone I have ever met...why am I letting these people live?"

Compared to the Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash comic series, this books seems very mid-core. As a fan of both these guys though... I found it nice to have. But it could have been so much better. The writing is a bit meh and the art goes from being alright to weirdly cartoonish. Nothing like the recent stuff being dished out. But it was published back in 1995 by some company called Topps comic that is no longer around...so I'll cut it some slack.

The covers are awesome though and I'm glad I got them for that alone.


Being a huge fan of Leatherface...I'm gonna try and get my self another comic called "Texas chainsaw Massacre: About a Boy" which is the story of little Leatherface growing up into Big Leatherface.

High School of the Dead

I'm not normally a big fan of Anime. I know a lot of people are, but I just can't seem to get into it. I did kinda like the Street Fighter 2 movie and this one called Ninja Scroll. But aside from that, I wouldn't go out of my way to pick one up.

Manga is another thing I can't get into. I've read some... but like the animated stuff they just drag on too long for me.

Well... I guess I've kind of made an exception because since last night I've been reading High School of the Dead. I got a translated copy of the manga cause the name made me curious, even before I got through the first volume, I began looking around for the other issues. Now I have all 4 volumes.

And I must say... it makes for a very exciting read. It's basically about a bunch of high school kids whose town has been over run by zombies. The art is manga and it has tones of panty shots and what not thrown all over the place. But it's the zombies and the gore that sealed the deal for me.

If I can get my hands on more stuff like this,I just might expand my entertainment horizons... but no tentacle monsters please.

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead comic series was first published by Image Comics back in 2003. Yes, It does boil my chops to know that i have been missing out on such an awesome book. All these years updating my Batman and Green Lantern collections... when I could also have been up to my ears in some bloody zombie goodness.

As i has mentioned in an earlier entry, there are some many zombie comics books out there, but the ones I had come across earlier read like B Grade movies. Now...any one that follows the zombie genre of movies, know that the B-grades make up the mass majority of it, and we've come to love that. When exposed to so many B movies..you come to love the ones that truly shine.


Well... I think The Walking Dead is a diamond in the rough here (yes, just like Aladdin) This comic reads so well. Instead of just mindless excuses to have lots of blood and gore, this comic builds such great tension and character.

It starts of with a cop that gets injured while on duty, he wakes up from a coma in an abandoned hospital only to find that the world around him consumed by zombies. It's easy to see that this zombie ride will be paying homage to the masterful zombies works before it, like the 28 Days opening for example.

Reading through the first few issues, I couldn't bring my self to stop. I wanted to see what happens next. The series kinda reminded me of the excellent Y-The last man books... Cause each book kinda focused on different people and in the end left them with crazy odds to fight or come to terms with.

The whole thing is in black and white, with some colored covers to mix things up. The storty feels a lot more old school, meaning it pulls more from the earlier classic zombie movies in terms of pacing and chracter development. It plays out by make the people more interesting and having the zombies as more of a background (yet constant) threat. The Wikipedia synopsis sums it up as:

The Walking Dead is centered around a small-town police officer from Cynthiana, Kentucky, his family, and a number of other survivors who have banded together in order to survive after the world is overrun with zombies. As the series progresses, the characters become more developed, and their personalities shift under the stress of a zombie apocalypse. Fighting growing despair — and occasionally each other — the group searches for a secure location which they can finally call home. The lives of these survivors will be changed forever.

This book is a must read for zombie fans...but I'm sure a lot of you know about this already. Just remember that I live on a tropical island where the biggest comic star is The Phantom.

Death Walks the Street

The other day I came across an interesting comic titled "Death Walks the Streets"

The first few pages had nice art of some scantly dressed chick killing zombies...so right of the bat it was an interesting. The rest of the story was so so, but what I found interesting was the stuff I found up when I looked the comic up online.

Published by a company with a very cool name, The Scream Factory, it seems the comic is part of some kind of a media project with the same title. Part of the planned project is a movie trilogy that's meant to be a horror enthusiasts wet dreams. A movie about vampires, were wolves and zombies co-existing with humans.

Sadly the ambitious project is currently on hold, but lets hope it leads to some place creative. The comic series is meant to be a prequel to the movies and is set three years before it. If the next issues has more zombie bashing...I'll definitely pick it up.

My new comics

Just got my hands on issue one of The Dead: Kingdom of Flies. So far it's an average start. The art work is more than descent, and in between, it has these funny Zombie facts and tips, which makes it entertaining. But at the end of the first issue I was left with a big fat 'Meh' I hope the next issue picks up. On the up side it had a nice cover.


I still haven't found my self a good zombie comic that I wanna follow. You'd be surprised to see how many zombie comic titles are out there. Every month when I go through new comic issues, I make sure to grab all the zombie titles i find. If anything just to sample them.

I have more than a few issues of Plague of the living dead and Escape of the living dead, but I don't find it too compelling. Plus I get distracted by the tits and ass. Their good though, gore wise I can't believe how easy it is to get by the comics code these days. But story wise, they don't do much forme... Id like to see people that I can grow to like... instead most of these books are filled with dick heads that piss e very one off and then get eaten. It's cool having some guy in a story that's an ass, but when the whole book is full of people that you don't give a shit about... it gets a bit tiring to follow.


I'm currently working on getting my self The Walking Dead collection by image. That series looks like it might be alright. From what Ive read, it has a strong bunch of characters trying to make it across a zombie infested America. A description I found online read:

I like that :D


The series it self is a bit old...but living in Fiji, you learn that it's better late than never.

Holy Shit@!

You know I love zombies. But aside from zombies and horror movies... I like Sci Fi. Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein. Even some Philip K Dick.

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy... I don't know why. I used to love a bit of Piers Anthony when i was like 12, but aside from that... not much else.

Except for Conan the barbarian.


I fucken love Conan. Ever since I got my hands on Conan the usurper at some garage sale when I was a kid...I've absolutely loved his adventure stories. Robert E. Howard's sword and sorcery stuff was so cool... no white wizards to hide behind, no silly wands to save you. Just man and solid steel. I even have the latest comic series by Dark Horse, and every single one of his stories. As far as i know.

Sadly I wasn't much of a fan of the Arnold movies that came out in the 80s. I just don't think it was done right. Maybe it's cause I didn't get to see them when they first came out. If it was the bomb once...to me it has kinda lost it's glory.

I"m sorry...

But re-fucken-joice! Cause there are talks of a new Conan movie coming out soon...and rumor has it that it will be directed by none other than the man him self Robert Rodriguez!


From what I've read online...it will be a a lot different from the earlier movies and will be a lot closer to Robert Howard's original work.

And if that wasn't enough... coming sooner is a Red Sonja movie staring the very hot Rose McGowan... Red Sonja was another one of Howard's sword swingers. The lack of originality sweeping across Hollywood may be paying off, as it gives them a chance to re-visit certain projects and maybe do right by them.

Stuff Harry Pottier... I hope these movies kick ass!

I was sick today...

So I decided to stay home and take a break from work. So after spending the morning playing Gears of War 2 with my Girl friend, we spent the afternoon watching a few movies.

First up was Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. I'm a huge fan of the original and even the remake, when I found "The Beginning", I was a bit skeptical... thinking it would be some cheap trick to cash in on the franchise. Man was I wrong. the winning formula of TCM is, in my opinion, a little hard to mess up. So as a fan this was a real treat. Just to watch this genesis of the nightmare was not only freaky, but kinda interesting.


The only down side is, being an origin story... we know that the nasties win and the goodie goodies die horribly. Which seems to be a requiring trend now days anyway.

After the movie I met some mates and then went to the video store, and came back with a little gem called Trailer Park of Terror, (and Madagascar 2...but that was for my girl friend)


Based on the comic book of the same name, Trailer park of Terror was good fun. Zombie looking crazies that rip up a couple of misguided teens who are on their way to some Christian youth camp. With fun special effects, funky characters and a plot thin enough to just talk over and enjoy. The weird thing is, the movie doesn't take it self seriously at all...this makes it hard to feel for the kids being terrorized. But that's cool... after watching the somewhat emotionally tiering Texas Chainsaw earlier, it was a welcome treat.

I'm not sure how true the story was to the comic series, but it looked pretty spot on based on the pics I found online. I'm in the processes of getting the comic now :D

For some reason that I'm finding it hard get the words for, the movie reminded me of 13 ghosts and House of a 1000 corpses.

Just Saw Re-Animator

And it was an awesome movie... The only thing I couldn't understand was why it took me so long to getting around to seeing it. It's not gonna rearrange my top horror movies list...but it will make it longer.

I had first come across the title when I got my hands on a comic book series called Army of Darkness Vs Re-Animator. I had heard of it before, but this was the first time I had seen anything to do with it.


Recently I got my hands on a new comic book monthly title published by Zenescope Entertainment called The Chronicles of doctor Herbert West. Herbert West is our faithful protagonist in the Re-Animator movies. Rather than being based on the movie, the comic series is based on the original works of H.P.Lovecraft, on which in turn the movie was based.


The comic was very interesting, and it made me curious about the movie...so i decided to get it, and I have to say it is surely a classic. It had all the trappings of things that make me wish I had a chainsaw. A dark sense of humor, dead men walking, a fun/ awesome leading man that was in way over his head. It reminded me a little of Evil Dead 2... any one who knows me, knows how much I love Evil Dead 2. Hell...anything Evil Dead I love :D
