So I doing my normal rounds of the various websites that run through Google Reader, when I came across the beautiful pic.
This is part of the "first looks" shots of the zombies from the up coming Walking Dead live action TV show. As mad about the project as I was, looking at these pics have me foaming at the mouth in anticipation.
This show looks to be shaping up very well... and after the horrible season of Supernatural that just ended, I need a new show to follow.
Head over to Bloody Disgusting for more pics and a video interview with the projects director.
So I've been watching a lot of The Real Ghostbusters lately, ever since I got my hands on the new PC game a few weeks back, and last night I came across a particularly amazing episode.
I don't like to believe in coincidences, but when I'm not working or playing Ghostbusters, I'm been reading a lot of Lovecraft; seeing how I just got my self the Necronomicon. So I was pretty stoked when I came across an episode of Ghostbusters called "The Collect Call of Cathulhu."(I'm guessing they stuck an "A" in there for pronunciation)
I was kind of expecting some half ass story about some ghost or such thing that kinda has some resemblance to everyone's favourite elder god. What I got instead was a full on homage to not only the Cthulhu mythos, but some of the more notable writers that shared the pages with Lovecraft back in the day.
The story starts off with the Necronomicon going on exhibition down at the New York Museum, when it's stolen by a horrible tentacle creature. The guy running the museum, Clark Aston (nod to Clark Aston Smith) calls up the Ghostbusters informing them about the theft. Immediately Egon starts freaking out because he know's all about the kind of dark powers the book has, Stanz even makes a reference about how he used to read about the book and Cthulhu in Weird Tales magazine as a kid.
Peter of course is oblivious to all of this and is more worried about a date he just missed out on.
They track the tentacle creature from the museum into some swears, but when confronting them they find that their proton packs are of little to no use, even against the mere "Spawns of Cthulhu." So they make a retreat and decide they need to know more about what their up against.
To find out more about the book they enlist the help of Necronomicon expert Alice Derleth (August Derleth) who informs the Ghostbusters of how the book can be used to summon Cthulhu once very 60 years.
So our heroes head off to find the doomsday cult that Derleth believes is responsible for the theft. But they get there just in time to see great Cthulhu rise from his acient slumber.
The episode is full of quotes from many of lovecraft's books and even the feel of it is a little spookier than a normal Ghostbusters episode. And having the show treat Cthulhu like the empedning doom that he is and not just some smuck ghost was very cool.
There's even an appearance by a Mr. Howard (Robert Howard) who is a rare book collector that helps the Ghostbusters by lending them some old copies of Weird Tales that might have a way of stopping the elder god.
I've actually said way more than enough, how about you just check out the episode below :P
Like zombie movies, there are a tone of zombie comics that are pumped out every month. And there comics range from the purely awesome to the not so awesome.
I say "not so awesome" because I actually read everyone of them that I can, and I kinda like em all. But the big cheese of all these zombie comics would have to be The Walking Dead.
Dished out monthly by Image Comics, The Walking Dead is is amazing in terms of art and story. Being more than just a horror comic, the walking dead is more a tale of human drama, set against a zombie apocalypse. We follow our lead characters as they strive to survive not only against the undead, but also against the ass holes of humanity who try to rape, murder and generally be a pain in the ass for our heroes every step of the way.
The series has come a long way, and I've read every issue since the first. I must admit that what made the comic even sweeter in the beginning was the awesome art by Tony Moore, whose style of black and white I've been mad about since his Fear Agent series. But he left few issues into Walking Dead and was replaced by Charlie Adlard, who has a grittier style that adds to the comic in it's own cool way.
With a great story made up of strong drama and mad zombie action... I was very excited when I heard that the series was coming to the small screen as a live action TV show.
Rick Grimes... my hero
Well today I heard that Brandon Routh, the man who sissied up Superman, is joining the cast of Walking Dead's TV show, but as yet there's no news as to who he will be playing.
I really can't see him as any of the characters from the comic. With the bullshit way casting and such has been going these days in movies, I'm just glad they didn't make him Rick Grimes, that role has been handed to British Actor Andrew Lincoln.
Well lets see how this unfolds, who knows... maybe Routh will have a funny cameo role where he gets eaten by zombie Superman fans.
I just got done watching what might be one of my favorite Supernatural Episodes yet. The 18th episode of Season four called "The monster at the end of this book" started of as something that gave me a bit of a laugh and ended with a big "fucken sweet!"
The basic plot of the episode is that Sam and Dean discover that all their adventures have some how turned into a series of cheap horror novels, with the writer of these novels having some sort of psychic insight into their lives.
I'm not going to get too much into it because I don't want to mess it up for anyone who might not have seenit. But I will say that the episode pays off most if you've been an avid fan from the start... as it pulls a lot from fandom.
Coincidently the show happens to be named after one of my favorite children's book that I absolutely loved as a kid. I was just at a BBQ over the weekend with my girl friends family... and I was just telling them how much I loved the book when I was like 6 or something.
Don't ask how I worked that into the conversation.
I know I know... it's been awhile since I wrote something up here. I've just been caught up with so many things. Plus Street Fighter 4 makes my thumbs hurt :(
Well.. I finished Season 3 for Supernatural this afternoon. I know it aired a long time ago...but I live in Fiji, I'm lucky to have even heard of the damn thing. A friend of mine got his hands on season 1 through to 3... so I borrowed it off him and started watching it like last week.
Lets just say with about 22 episodes each in seasons 1 and 2...and 16 episodes in season 3... I've watched a lot of Supernatural these past few days.
For Valentines I took my GF to go see 'My Blood Valentine' in full glorious 3D!
I normally hate remakes... but this baby was pretty decent. Plus it had that guy who plays Dean in Supernatural, that rocked. It may not have been an amazing movie... but the 3D shizz and the cheap scares were enough to keep me entertained.
I also went to watch the Friday the 13th remake with my GF. Feb 13th was her birthday. Sadly I didn't find the F13 outing too worthwhile. Sure it was a brand new movie with my hero Jason slashing shizz up... but for some reason I felt as though the producers new mix of the Jason formula didn't go down well. At the end of the movie I found it a little lacking.
Hack harder Jason!...Harder!
And I really liked Jason X... so for me to feel this way mad me sad. Cause I really was looking forward to the new one. In the end I felt the movie didn't do for the F13 franchise what Rob Zombie did for the Halloween franchise.
On the zombie front my viewing has been slightly limited. Like I said, I've been mucking around with Supernatural for the past few weeks. I did pick up a copy of Death-Dream aka Dead of Night. A movie about this guy who dies in NAM...but then...somehow...comes home. It was interesting... slow, but kinda creepy at times. Otherwise, I like my zombies more traditionally brain dead.
In this movie the zombie can drive.
O and I'm saving up to get my hands on Resident Evil 5. It's gonna cost me fucken 200 bucks to order the damn game into Fiji. I hope I can trust the reviews. But it is Resident Evil...and you pretty much can't go wrong with it. Unless you count Code Veronika and the horrible RE: Saviour series.
If anyone out there wants to buy me a copy of Resident Evil 5 (PAL) for me 350... I'll let you come over and play when the zombie holocaust breaks out.
Plus my mum cooks a mean curry... think about it.
As far as reading goes... I've been mucking around looking for any thing new on Batman's death. Walking Dead is still keeping me thrilled. Plus I've got a few 'new' Asimov's that I found at a local book sale.
But tonight I'm going to spend sometime going through the new one from my hero Ben Templesmith called Welcome to Hoxford. I love everything this artist has done... from his mad vampires in 30 days of night... to the latest Dead Space stuff he did for one of my fav 360 titles from EA.
I heard Hoxford is about werewolves running an asylum; sounds like a bloody good time to me.
Just finished watching the 5 part Zombie Mini Series Dead Set... And it was so damn sweet. Each episode was like getting a small but concentrated dose of 28Days Later meets Dawn of the Dead.
This is definitely one of the new bench marks for the Zombie genre in my books, just wish it didn't have to end.
It was gritty, full of gore...it had them zombies that chase you down and a cool ass morbid ending. Not to mention it had some alright looking British chicks.
Another cool thing about Dead Set is that it feels so real. The characters in it are normal people thrust into a mad situation... and each of them play to it with what ever their characters strength. Normally we are just thrown into these movies... with a slight build up that is followed by sweet zombie madness. Dead Set however takes it's time setting things up and putting them in order. Starting with every day people going about their 'normal' lives...before ending up in a mess that's beyond any reason.
Plus the Zombies get whacked so good in this thing.
I hate reality television shows... it's a pile of crap that should have been falcon punched the moment it was conceived.
You know what's worse than reality TV...FAKE reality TV.
I mean what is the damn point?
But along comes a show that has me begging for it. What show you ask? A little gem called Dead Set. I just got my hands on the first episode of this five part Survival Horror TV show....and it fucken rocks so hard.
Guess fake reality TV has earned it's keep for now.
